With its great variety of cultural facilities and sights, the district has plenty of recreational activities to offer. The flagship boulevard of the former DDR, Karl-Marx-Allee, presents the perfect mixture of historic buildings and modern businesses and is worth more than just a small stroll.

If you are looking to enjoy an extensive shopping spree, Friedrichshain is the right place for you. Apart from the well known fashion stores, some individual, creative boutiques have settled here and offer unique clothes designed by young designers.

Countless parks and green spaces complete the image of Berlin Friedrichshain. Enjoy a picnic in the park or a long walk in one of the small forest areas, afar the big city rush.

SIGHTS AND LANDMARKS

Friedrichshain stands out with one of Berlin’s most famous landmarks: the East Side Gallery. With a length of one kilometre it is the longest connected piece of Berlin Wall. Right after the Fall of the Berlin Wall the East Side Gallery was already sprayed by several artists. The huge open air gallery at the banks of the river Spree documents the life in East Berlin in more than 100 colourful pictures. So, when staying in one of our furnished apartments in Berlin Friedrichshain you should not miss out going on a stroll along the colourful mile.

CULTURAL OFFERS

A special highlight in Friedrichshain is also the Karl¬Marx Allee. This was the most well known street in the GDR which was lined with apartment buildings from the 1950s which still have been maintained until this day. In the cinema International in Karl-Marx-Allee the Communist ambience still exists. Next to the cinema there is also a library as well as event rooms. Today the maintained block of flats with two dome towers of the Frankfurt Gate form a harmonious picture. Café Sibylle is in one of the preserved buildings. Since the 1950s it has been a place where one could unwind. Until this day parts of the original mural and stucco ceiling can be enjoyed.

Also it is recommended to visit the cinema Intimes. Very much in the style of the 1970s it is one of the few Berlin cinemas that have been in operation since the start of the 20th century.

SHOPPING

A very special shopping experience is provided in Friedrichshain by the large number of independent stores and creative boutiques. Around the Boxhagener Platz many young designers and alternative boutiques have set up shop. Not far from our furnished apartments you are able to pop down and have a browse. Those on the lookout for a bargain should visit the Zalando Outlet.  Opposite of the East Side Gallery on the other side of the river Spree you are able to pick up some great offers on clothes, shoes and accessories.

PARKS

There is also many places where you can unwind and forget the everyday stresses in Friedrichshain. The Volkspark Friedrichshain is particularly popular with visitors. The 49 hectare large park complex is in the midst of the city in an idyllic location for nature enthusiasts. Generous lawns and countless playgrounds for children distinguish the park. A wonderful café at the duck pond and the famous fairy-tale well which is decorated with stone fairy-tale figures are further features. Many of our furnished apartments are close to this inner city nature idyll.

Also worth including on your itinerary is Boxhagener Platz not far from the popular Simon-Dach-Straße. Here the weekly flea market is held every Sunday which you should visit during your stay in temporary accommodation in Berlin Friedrichshain. There is a lot on offer including furniture, books and other collectable items.

GASTRONOMY

The Sunday flea market stroll can be perfectly combined with a nice brunch in one of the numerous cafés in Berlin Friedrichshain which are all in proximity to Boxhagener Platz. But also in the evenings there is an abundance of culinary offers. Particularly the Simon-Dach-Straße is famous for its many bars and restaurants providing regional as well as international cuisine. Here exotic delights meet old traditional German dishes.

RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES AND SPECIAL HIGHLIGHTS

Berlin Friedrichshain is also not boring on free days. In the beach bar Haubentaucher visitors can unwind in the lounge area, enjoy culinary delights in the beer garden or take a swim in the own 20 metre long pool.

It is a must to pay a visit on Sundays to the Berlin Village Market in the Neuen Heimat which is a highlight for culinary enthusiasts. At the Street Food Markt a large number of stall owners as well as well known Berlin Street Food cooks offer their specialities. Accompanied by live music and cocktails you are able to indulge in more than 20 stalls from across the globe. Also something worth having a look at is the Oberbaumbrücke which was amongst other things the backdrop in the famous German film “Run Lola Run”. The seven arch stone bridge crosses over the river Spree and captivates with its unique architecture. From the Oberbaumbrücke you can already see the Mercedes¬Benz Arena. The multipurpose arena offers an array of concerts, sport events and musicals. This could be an option to bring the day to a great end before returning to your apartment.
